BR Tilley Lamp found abandoned at the site of the old Kelston station the day after track lifting took place in 1966. Not marked but it is BR and the lighting method, from the integral reservoir, is certainly synonymous with company Tilley Lamps. Together with a BR(NE) Flare Lamp in extremley good condition and so stamped on the side casing.

Snow Hill Station C/I Direction Sign measuring 37" x 8" with one end pointed. Single sided, it also has the wording 'Citizens Advice Bureau' and the image of a walking man next to the BR Double Arrow and another, presumably, the Advice Bureau logo. Unusual in as much as most of these modern image street direction signs were cast alloy.

BR(NE) Enamel Sign Platform 1, F/F with black edged lettering. Measures 24" x 18" Easily the most difficult of all Platform Number signs to acquire. Some chipping but nice colour and shine.

Smokebox Numberplate 73094. Ex British Railways Standard Class, built Derby December 1955 and allocated to Shrewsbury. Later moved to Patricroft and finally Gloucester Barnwood where this was rescued from the locomotive on the 9th June 1963. Withdrawn from service in May 1967 and scrapped at Cashmores, Great Bridge. Painted long ago, probably around time it was taken off the loco.

GW & SR Brass Uniform Buttons, a pair. Both are 23mm size bearing makers name Crompton & Sons London on the rear. These buttons were used on the island of Guernsey where the Great Western Railway and Southern Railway had Joint powers from 1932 onwards. They were worn by GWR Agents and Southern Clerks. Certainly quite scarce.

BR(M) Cart Lamp of interesting design. Has a clear, rectangular glass either side and a red glass to the front although this has a sliding cover normally in place. The back, embossed in large letters, is the opening door. Curved top with thin handle, the bottom has a 2" integral tube for mounting on the cart. Original and unusual reservoir, also clearly embossed BRM, which houses the burner. Unrestored.

GWR Brass Cased Drum Clock by Kays of Paris. Stamped on the case with the number 5092, which also appears on the back cover and on the movement inside. Also visible, penciled on the inside cover, is the location Chalford. Enamel face has the company initials and the makers name. No crazing but a small crack in the enamel at 6 o'clock which barely detracts from a wonderful example of known location. Full working order and an excellent time-keeper.

L&NWR Split Case Mahogany, Signalbox Block Bell bearing original, brass location plate THRAPSTON. Company initials clearly stamped in rear of case and once opened, the makers name EG Bartholomew Makers, is deeply engraved into brass base. Complete with Tapper. The case has a little, original damage but this delightful Block Bell is in totally ex box condition. Note: Thrapston was served by both the Midland Railway (Midland Road station, closed June 1959) and the London North Western Railway (Bridge Street station, closed May 1964), the latter being between Wellingborough and Oundle. This instrument probably came from either Ringstead & Addington Box or Thorpe Box.

Bulleid 'Q1' Class Locomotive Brake Handle. A surprising survivor from this small and desirable class, affectionately known as 'Coffee Pots'. Retains the spring loaded catch to enable the driver to feel when it was in the motion position. Manufactured from bronze and measuring just over 12", it really is a delightful item, just a pity it doesn't bear the loco number.

Worksplate Montreal Locomotive Works No 65359. Cast Iron construction, this came from 4-6-2 Pacific Locomotive No 15, built 1923 and belonging to the Toronto Hamilton and Buffalo Railway. A very rare plate in view of the fact that this railway only had three Pacific Locomotives, this particular one being withdrawn in 1955. The TH&B was jointly owned by Canadian Pacific and New York Central.

Together with a plethora of Gloucester related plans and paperwork to include. Pencil drawing of Water Tower, June 1931: GWR Coal Stage: Engine Shed Coal Drop: Water Crane: A substantial number of plans in all. Also correspondence from Ransome & Rapier (addressed to W.A.Stanier LMS Gloucester!!) re the supply of the Turntable. Other letters arranging Traveling Crane to Gloucester for installing Turntable. Finally a folder reference ongoing dispute between Gloucester City Council and the LMS (including Mr Stanier!) re Water Supply from River Twyver to the Station etc.

Greek Railways Alloy Winged Emblem which was carried by the Hellenic State Railways Class LB 2-10-0 Locomotive number 960. Built by the North British Locomotive Company for Wartime use in 1944, it was originally numbered a WD 73672. The loco was acquired by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and runs with the name Vera Lynn. This particular plate came from a gentleman who was involved with the repatriation of the locomotive. Totally ex loco.

LMS 13" Mahogany Cased, Drop Dial, Fusee Clock. The dial is lettered 'LMS 14643' and the movement carries the same number. It is a good quality, chain driven fusee movement, quite possibly of German manufacture. Quite probably ex Caledonian Railway and renumbered by the LMS. In full working order and nicely restored.

GWR Analysis Book with Map dated 1926. Black hardback cover with gold inlay lettering. A scarce, much sought after book, comprising 142 pages listing the history & growth of the Company from 1792 until 1926. It details every single railway company, no matter how small, that the GWR incorporated. Each has a brief history and is indexed and coloured onto the substantial map inside the rear cover. Signed inside front cover "Mr P.R.Gale, with the Chief Goods Managers's Compliments & Congratulations - E.Ford March 13/27" Quite unique because P.R.Gale prepared the book and this appears to be his managers' copy back to him. Very good condition.

Has metal end bracket with swing hoops and also top hooks. Certainly a rarity and a must for the museum or collection.

BR(M) Totem Besses o’ th’ Barn, curtailed full-flange, wall-fitting variety with four integral fixing-holes. Arguably the best condition example out of the three to come on the market. It has a small chip to the top edge white stripe above the left and right fixing holes, both very easily repaired. One other tiny chip, again in the white stripe, and very slight damage around three of the four fixing holes. In other words, quite superb with brilliant colour and deep shine. Ex LMS (LYR) station, between Manchester and Bury. The station opened in 1933 then closed in 1991 and re-opened in 1992 by the GMPTE. One of the top 5 most desirable totems in the country. Unique, lower-case lettering and double apostrophe. Only appeared twice before at auction.

GWR Swindon Works, originating from the Chief Mechanical Engineers Office, Original Oil Painting of North Eastern Railway Atlantic Z Class Locomotive 733 by BA Curry dated 1914. This significant rarity, beautifully executed on board, has all the provenance on a typed label on the rear. The loco itself took part in the 1923 Trials, well documemted in OS Nocks Book 'Great Northern 4-4-2 Atlantics' One of the trial participants was JH Smeddle, father of RA Smeddle who was of course Chief Mechanical Engineer at Swindon in the 1950's. The painting is in a glazed frame (remade in Jan 1994) and measures 24½" x 14½". A wonderful, museum quality painting, once owned by Smeddle.

Nameplate KENYA, ex LMS Jubilee Class Locomotive designed by William Stanier, built Crewe 1934 and numbered 5613. One of only 10 to be fitted with a Stanier 3500 Gallon Straight Sided Tender. Renumbered by BR to 45613 whilst allocated to Edge Hill. Later allocations include Chester West, Carlisle and Carnforth. Withdrawn 1964 along with 66 others of the class. The front and edge of the plate is basically ex loco with much original paint, the back has been cleaned but bears the scars of all the years on the loco. Clearly stamped with two punch holes.

Has a good quality, 'London Pattern' fusee movement in working order. The original dial reads 'BR(NE) 15745'. The LNER records show this clock as being located at Bradford Exchange Traffic Cloak Room and also as having the LYR No 1333. A rare and early clock, indeed much rarer than GWR examples.

L&YR 3 aspect Handlamp with square front and clear, bullseye lens. One side has company initials over which is stamped RINGLEY ROAD (between Salford and Bury). Also stamped elsewhere BURY ELD (Electric Loco Department). The other side of the lamp is stamped with the number 2461 and some other numbers. The brass locking slide on top of the rear handle is also stamped LYR. There is also a blanking plate fitted near the base which undoubtedly hides another location stamping, possibly different to the two above. Complete with reservoir and burner, this is truly a wonderful, restored example.

This must be the very first issue because the company was formed in this very year by amalgamation of the Oswestry & Newtown Railway, the Llanidloes & Newtown Railway, the Newtown & Machynlleth Railway and the Oswestry Ellesmere & Whitchurch Railway. Hardback version printed by Askew Roberts, Woodall & Venables, Bailey Head and Caxton Steam Printing Works, Oswald Road, Oswestry. Cover is faded red and there is some page foxing on the clear front and back pages. Doesn't detract from such a scarcity.

Midland Railway 1 Gallon Copper Flagon of quite exceptional quality and style. Standing just about 11½" high and approximately 8½" across the bulbous base, it has a substantial handle and a narrow, jug-like, fluted top/pourer. It is ornately engraved 'MR Co' with '1 Gallon' in block beneath. Inside the pourer is the official George V (with crown) Weights & Measures Token, numbered 19, embedded into the copper. A truly magnificent, early item.
